About the Event
Bibi’s program will reflect her love of the Yiddish language through song. She will pull at your heartstrings with songs of life in the shtetl, songs of love and suffering,and folk songs that were sung to her as a child. It is an honor to share such gems and try to inspire the love of Yiddish music and our rich culture with a wider audience. Lomir Zingn a Yiddish Lid!
The event is free; donations are welcome. This is an in person event (not accessible remotely) and registration is required.
Bibi Marcell has been performing throughout the world for many years, spending most of her time in the Chicago area. She began her singing career in her teens and later joined the Chicago Klezmer Ensemble. In addition to performing extensively on her own, Bibi is currently a featured vocalist with the Maxwell Street Klezmer Band. Between singing engagements, Bibi works as a cantorial soloist and is Religious Education Director for Congregation Hakafa in Glencoe, Il. She is also the mother of three beautiful children.
Gail Mangurten is musical director of many professional and community ensembles. She is on the teaching staff of Cappelli Institute of Music in Oak Park and accompanies services at many congregations. She has made 4 recordings with the Maxwell Street Klezmer Band and played with them on several tours of Europe. She graduated from Indiana University where she honed her classical and jazz skills.
